Designing websites with grids eh? I’ve been reading alot about the use of grids when designing websites recently, and have found an excellent resource at http://www.designbygrid.com/.

I’ve even tried designing a few websites with some basic grids and can honestly say that i think that it helps greatly. I’ve been reading some blog comments on other sites where people suggest that using grids can limit creativity. I can kind of see where there coming from but surely the use of grids in graphic design and typesetting for many years shows that grids don’t limit creativity but probably help.

You have to know the grid before you can break the grid.

Choices choices choices……. My hosting for my online portolio is due to run out in a couple of days and i have a choice i need to make. I can either stay with 123-reg.co.uk where my site is currently hosted, however they don’t offer anything like PHP/mySql which i am considering experimenting with escpecially to host a blog directly on my portfolio rather than using blogger. However the other choice is more expensive and i also feel that it could be a potential waste of money at the moment as i might not end up using it as much as i would like, maybe i’ll experiment in the coming year with PHP locally before i decide to start using it with the website etc….

It’s been a long time coming but i’m finally in the process of redesigning my website as i feel my current site is letting me down and not showing my true abilities. I’ll also update my showreels to fit with this new website update.

The new website will still be XHTML/CSS but will have bits of flash as well hopefully. I think i’m also going to transfer my hosting to www.sitehq.co.uk as they offer PHP hosting and i’m hoping to use this to start hosting my own blog (amongst other things) on my website.

Well, it’s been ages since i last posted a blog entry, i’m not sure if it’s through lack of time, laziness or something else.

With that in mind i’ve decided that i’m going to make a commitment from now to post at least 1 blog entry a week,i’ve not decided yet what topic each entry is going to cover but hopefully i’ll discover that soon.
