Saturday, November 3rd, 2007

This week i’ve managed to create a rough mock up of my new portfolio site, there’s still a few tweaks to be done on it but the basics of it are there.

After the previous post i used a grid to design the latest website and i think it shows, theres a much stronger structure in the layout of the site.

Designing websites with grids

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

Designing websites with grids eh? I’ve been reading alot about the use of grids when designing websites recently, and have found an excellent resource at http://www.designbygrid.com/.

I’ve even tried designing a few websites with some basic grids and can honestly say that i think that it helps greatly. I’ve been reading some blog comments on other sites where people suggest that using grids can limit creativity. I can kind of see where there coming from but surely the use of grids in graphic design and typesetting for many years shows that grids don’t limit creativity but probably help.

You have to know the grid before you can break the grid.
